Celtic were in imperious form on Saturday afternoon as they blew Premiership strugglers Kilmarnock away at Parkhead.
After a disappointing defeat to St Johnstone in Perth last weekend that delayed the club’s league title party, Brendan Rodgers demanded a reaction from his players.
It’s exactly what he got against a poor Killie team who simply could not handle the pressure Celtic put on them, particularly in a barnstorming first-half.
The marvellous Reo Hatate grabbed a brace, while Daizen Maeda’s tap in and Cameron Carter-Vickers’ unbelievable strike from distance put the Hoops 4-1 ahead at the interval.
Anthony Ralston added gloss to the 5-1 victory with a stoppage time goal and it now means Celtic can win the title on Sunday if Rangers slip up versus Aberdeen.

Celtic attempted record 1020 passes vs Kilmarnock
Sky Sports broadcasted Celtic’s thumping of Kilmarnock live and punters at home were certainly treated to an entertaining spectacle.
They always provide a detailed statistical run down of the game after the full-time whistle and the most astonishing stat concerned the number of passes Celtic attempted.
That totalled an unbelievable 1020 against Kilmarnock, which Sky Sports host Eilidh Barbour confirmed as the most passes Celtic have ever attempted in a game since records began.
It’s an incredible milestone for Brendan Rodgers‘ Bhoys and proves nothing other than how dominant Celtic were against their Ayrshire opponents.
More stats from Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock
So it’s not surprise to hear that with 1020 passes attempted by Celtic, they took a mammoth 88 percent share of the possession against Killie.
| Celtic | Stats | Kilmarnock |
| 1.81 | xG | 0.16 |
| 14 | Total shots | 5 |
| 6 | Shots on target | 1 |
| 2 | Big chances | 1 |
| 0 | Big chances missed | 1 |
| 950 | Accurate passes | 72 |
| 9 | Fouls committed | 9 |
Yet despite Celtic’s dominance, they could only muster up a 1.81 xG and actually only registered six efforts on target the full game.
Kilmarnock had one more big missed chance than Celtic, although that was never going to influence the end result if converted anyway.
While the accurate passes Celtic made came to 950, which works out at around 13 times more passes than Kilmarnock made successfully in Glasgow.
