Celtic should be alarmed by damning stat vs Dundee United that even Wilfried Nancy didn’t manage

Celtic produced an alarming stat against Dundee United that even Wilfried Nancy can’t take the blame for.

Like they did on their last trip to Tannadice, Celtic were beaten by Dundee United to put a huge dent in their title hopes, especially after victories for Hearts and Rangers.

The Bhoys looked particularly vulnerable at the back on Sunday afternoon, conceding shots left, right and centre, which has resulted in them walking away looking far worse defensively than they did under Nancy.

Celtic conceded more shots than they have in any other league game

By the time the full-time whistle went, Celtic had conceded 19 shots on goal, the most they have faced this season.

Meanwhile, under O’Neill’s predecessor, the highest number of shots the Bhoys conceded was in a 4-2 win against Livingston, facing 13 shots on goal.

While results may have improved, the Hoops are still looking as shaky as ever in the backline.

Not having the likes of Julian Araujo, Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and more to call upon means you are missing out on talent, but the options available are more than good enough to shut out sides.

Attack will have to be the best form of defence for Celtic

It is clear that the back four are not good enough to keep teams at bay, therefore Celtic will have to adapt to the old method of outscoring their opponents.

That may also be an issue as aside from Benjamin Nygren’s 19 goals, no player has looked like firing them in.

Only wins will do between now and the end of the season and somehow, some way, Celtic need to learn to put the ball in the back of the net.
