Celtic should have every right to be annoyed by the state of the pitch on display at Tannadice for the Hoops’ visit to Dundee United.
Martin O’Neill’s side have been excellent away from home since his return in November and will be looking to keep within touching distance of the league leaders Hearts.
It was always going to be a tough contest but images of the pitch online have left supporters fuming, and they have every right to be so.

Dundee United pitch covered in sand for Celtic game
Chris Sutton’s tweet of the pitch at Tannadice before kick-off showed that it had been covered with plenty of sand all over it.
Some have even compared it to a beach and suggested that the players bring their buckets and spades to build sandcastles.
A statement from the Arabs in February 2026 confirmed that they had taken a number of precautions to ensure the pitch would be suitable to use.
They said on the club website: “A range of pitch-protection measures have taken place during this period. These actions have been crucial in enabling fixtures to proceed during prolonged periods of heavy rainfall.
“However, they have had an unavoidable impact on the visual appearance of the playing surface. This has been the necessary compromise in ensuring continuity across an exceptionally demanding run of home fixtures during extraordinary weather conditions.”
Celtic should be complaining about the pitch
To see a pitch covered in sand the way it has towards the back end of March is disappointing to say the least.
Whether it was a tactical move to slow down Celtic’s play or not, the risk of injury for both players is extremely high on reflection.
With the World Cup coming up soon, the last thing anyone needs is suffering a long-term problem and something needs to be done to stop this from happening in the future.
