The recent cameos of Mikey Johnston from the Celtic bench have certainly caught the imagination of supporters.
The winger got a full half-hour vs St Johnstone yesterday and proved himself to be a dangerous attacker. With direct running, balls into the box and a fine effort that hit the post, the Academy graduate was on the brink of making a goal contribution throughout his time on the pitch.
Even Ange Postecoglou was glowing in his assessment of the player’s ability after the match, telling reports that Johnston can now go on to make a “huge impact” in his Celtic team.

However, we’ve been done this road a few times before and each time it’s ended with disappointment.
Johnston’s injury record has been a real hindrance to his Celtic progression and we simply don’t know if that will remain a factor moving forward. You’d like to think that with a new manager in charge and a new sports science approach in place that the worst days for Johnston are behind him.
His natural ability is not in question. He has one intent when he receives the ball and that’s creating a goalscoring opportunity. More often than not he can get the better of Scottish Premiership opponents. It’s an entertaining style.
It’s now key he can show the consistency need to be part of a Celtic squad that plays around 60 games a season.
He at least has the backing of fans, with many supporters taking to social media this weekend to share their thoughts on his recent displays…
