Anthony Ralston is a contender to feature in Saturday’s Celtic match squad for the Scottish Cup clash at home to St Mirren.
Ralston hasn’t played for the Bhoys since December 21st when the Bhoys beat Livingston 2-1 at Celtic Park.
After picking up an injury in that one, he was later named as an unused substitute on January 18th but suffered another setback in training the next day, which has ruled him out up to this point.
John Kennedy confirmed in a pre-match media conference this afternoon that Ralston has had a solid week of training with the group under his belt and could feature in some capacity in tomorrow’s early evening kick-off.
The likelihood is that he’ll be named on the bench with Alistair Johnston showing consistent form at right-back in the early stages of his Bhoys career.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist, meanwhile, remains out. He is now the only injury within the Celtic first-team group as Ange Postecoglou’s policy of rotation and squad depth pays off big.
Siegrist may well have earned minutes in the Scottish Cup this season had he not been injured through this period. He played twice in place of Joe Hart in the Scottish League Cup earlier in the campaign.
It’s a blow for him to remain on the sidelines but overall it’s fantastic news to hear the squad is in such fine shape and there have been no further injury issues within the group’s training this week.
Ange Postecoglou will be able to name a very strong eleven tomorrow, that’s for sure.
