Celtic take on Motherwell on Sunday hoping to reclaim top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

The Aberdeen winning train just doesn’t stop because they picked up another three points on Saturday when they scored a late goal to beat Dundee United.

Brendan Rodgers saw what Aberdeen were capable of last week, but now it’s time to show why Celtic are champions by getting back to winning ways.

The Bhoys are coming off the back of a positive result and performance after their goalless draw against Atalanta in the Champions League in midweek.

It was a defensive masterclass by Celtic against Atalanta, with many of the players, especially the backline, getting lauded and applauded for their performances.

Neil Lennon felt that Auston Trusty played his best game for Celtic, but it might not have been enough to keep him in the XI.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is back from injury for Celtic in what is a huge boost to the team because he is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Jamie Murphy labelled the USMNT international as a ‘big character’ and he expects him to now start at Fir Park, as he told Go Radio.

Yes, Murphy acknowledged that Trusty ‘done well’ in Italy, but there is a pecking order at the club for a reason.

“The performance the other night was good, getting a clean sheet in a Champions League game is a big thing,” said Murphy. 

“But I would imagine, if Carter-Vickers is fit, then he is coming back into the team, He is a player Celtic don’t quite exactly look the same without. He brings that strength to the defence. You play him on the right side and, I would imagine, he would stay with Scales on the left, even though Trusty has done well. 

“He is a big character. I don’t know what he is like in the dressing room and things like that. But he certainly looks like he brings a lot to the team when he is playing.”

The duo have played a handful of games in the Premiership this season, alongside the ever-reliable Liam Scales.

WhoScored has rated Carter-Vickers 7.65 for the season so far, whilst Trusty isn’t far behind with a rating of 7.13.

It also needs to be noted that Trusty can play across the backline, so it will be interesting to see if Rodgers goes down that route at any stage this season.

But, not just by what the Celtic fans see, but by the stats also, it’s pretty clear who is the dominant force at the back.
