Celtic under pressure to end seven-game clean sheet drought as they close in on concerning record

Add as preferred source on Google

Celtic have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven league games and if they are unable to keep Dundee out, they will move one step closer to an embarrassing record.

The Bhoys have been fragile at the back to say the least this season. This time last year, Celtic had let in 20 goals whereas this time around they have conceded 34, more than they did in the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign.

Martin O’Neill’s side have had to deal with defensive instability all season long but are in real danger of matching an unwanted record that hasn’t been reached since 2006.

Late goals are the theme for these two sides, but what will the score be?

The unwanted record Martin O’Neill could match at Celtic

Although O’Neill has won more points than any other Celtic manager this season, performances still haven’t been at the standard we would expect.

Conceding goals is the big problem right now, with the last clean sheet in the Scottish Premiership coming in a 2-0 victory against Falkirk on 1 February 2026.

10 games is the longest period the Bhoys have gone without shutting out an opposition’s attack, coming back in February 2006 under Gordon Strachan.

Celtic need an overhaul in defence

O’Neill and the other Celtic managers this season have had to deal with losing star players Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers for almost the entirety of the season and various injury/disciplinary issues haven’t helped.

Most accepted the fact that someone like Carter-Vickers would be off in the summer but, even if his spell on the treatment table extends his stay for another season, a complete overhaul is required.

The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝

The time is probably now for the club to upgrade on Liam Scales, as well as provide stronger options in back-up roles.

Aside from Scales, Kieran Tierney has been the only player consistently available, but even he hasn’t played for the full 90 minuteS in a lot of those games.

Change is needed all over the pitch, but this season has proved that the defence needs a refresh more than most.
