Celtic’s title hopes are in serious doubt after losing 2-0 to Dundee United.
Two second-half goals on a terrible pitch at Tannadice undid Celtic as Martin O’Neill’s side never showed any signs of producing anything.
That leaves the Bhoys third in the league table heading into the final international break and on the cusp of matching a record that has been intact since the grim days of the 1999/2000 season.

Should Martin O’Neill take some of the blame for the loss to Dundee United?
Celtic close to equalling record for most league defeats in a season
Defeat in the city of discovery was the eighth of the campaign for Celtic and moves them one step closer to a record that was previously set during the ill-fated reign of John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish.
In that year, Celtic lost nine league games and missed out on the title to Rangers.

That led to the arrival of O’Neill a year later and while the 74-year-old can’t be blamed entirely this time, this loss could be the nail in the coffin for any chances of retaining the title.
Losing this many games is totally unacceptable for a side dreaming of winning league titles, and now it really is out of their hands as even if they beat Hearts and Rangers, the Jambos are still five points clear at the top of the table.
