Celtic continued a near-perfect record of beating Rangers in a penalty shootout to reach the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Martin O’Neill’s side won 4-2 on penalties after the two teams played out a goalless draw over 120 minutes, with both sides having goals overturned by VAR.

The Hoops were the ones who kept their nerves in front of the Copeland Stand and booked their slot in the last four and based on previous history, a shootout win was never in doubt.

Who was your Celtic man of the match against Rangers?

Penalty shootouts are a rarity in the Glasgow derby and have only happened three times before this clash.

History is in Celtic’s favour though and they have now won three of the four clashes that have been settled with penalties.

Before today, their last victory against Rangers via shootout was in the Premier Sports Cup final in December 2024.

The one and only defeat was in the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park in 2016, when Rangers won the semi-final.

1974 was the only other occasion that this clash has gone the distance, with the Bhoys also winning 4-2 on that day.

When is the Scottish Cup semi-final?

Fans will now be preparing for another trip to Mount Florida in the hope that the Hoops can end the season with at least one trophy.
