Celtic’s Sunday task after Saturday Scottish Premiership results

Celtic will be playing to restore an eight-point advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership tomorrow after Saturday afternoon’s results.

Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys return to the scene of their only domestic loss this term – Rugby Park – in an effort to overcome Derek McInnes’ Kilmarnock.

There were five games played today ahead of tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off. Second-placed Rangers secured a 3-1 result at home to Dundee despite going a goal down early on, reducing Celtic’s Premiership lead to five points.

Elsewhere, St Mirren returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at home to Ross County while Hibernian secured a narrow 1-0 win away to Livingston.

Aberdeen dramatically came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Hearts with Leighton Clarkson scoring in stoppage to deliver a much-needed result for the under-pressure Barry Robson.

Motherwell and St Johnstone also played out a 1-1 draw.

Celtic can keep rivals at arm’s length with Kilmarnock win

The Bhoys were in excellent form on Wednesday night and will be looking to carry that momentum into a tough encounter on Sunday.

Kilmarnock are a top six side and McInnes knows how to set up a side to frustrate Celtic, although expect a much better performance from Rodgers’ side than the one we witnessed in the Scottish League Cup.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is a doubt for the match as Celtic await the results of an MRI scan on his hamstring while Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada remain confirmed absentees.

McInnes could be missing as many as six players of his own, too, including three of his regular midfield picks.

There’s pressure on Celtic to win on every matchday but it’s even more important knowing that those chasing us have banked their points for the weekend. Hopefully we see energy and intent from the first whistle to get the job done.
