Chris Sutton clamps bitter Stephen Robinson’s VAR moan as Celtic hero says St Mirren boss is ‘talking rubbish’

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson had a moan about VAR after watching Celtic beat his side in Paisley last night.

Callum McGregor’s wonder goal ensured Celtic beat St Mirren with just seconds to go, after the Hoops captain rifled in a long-range winner to leave Robinson absolutely sickened.

The St Mirren boss said that there will be ‘some sort of reason’ concocted to justify the call to rule his side’s goal against Celtic out, as the Northern Irishman took a bitter swipe at the match officials not calling the referee over to the VAR monitor.

Reacting to Robinson’s tears, Celtic hero Chris Sutton tells the St Mirren boss ‘he’s talking rubbish’ and even Kris Boyd was in agreement about the decision to disallow the Liam Scales own goal.

Chris Sutton ‘surprised at Stephen Robinson’ VAR tears after Celtic win

There is no doubt that the St Mirren player was offside when Liam Scales put the ball past Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

And as Robinson moaned that VAR should have asked referee Don Robertson to look at the monitor, Celtic icon Sutton told the St Mirren boss he was ‘talking rubbish’.

Sutton told Sky Sports Scotland, “There’s absolutely no doubt [the decision was correct].

“I’m surprised at Stephen Robinson, you know, he played football, he is a coach, he would understand that when Liam Scales turns, he would have peripheral vision, he would have caught the player, hence why he made that decision to try and clear the ball.

“He ended up poking it into his own net. So I thought Steven Robinson was talking rubbish.”

Kris Boyd backs Sutton over disallowed St Mirren goal vs Celtic

The decision even got the seal of approval from Kris Boyd who never normally shies out of taking a swipe at officials if there is the slightest hint they get a Celtic decision wrong.

Boyd replied, “Listen, that is a correct decision. There is no doubt, Liam Scales, as soon as his body is in front of Mandron’s, he’s going to shield that back to Kasper Schmeichel. He’s an international defender.

“You look here, as soon as his body is in there, he’s getting a great position there to shield Mandron and hope that Kasper Schmeichel comes and gets it. He then catches sight of McMenamin, and that’s when the leg comes out and pokes it past the goalkeeper.

“There’s no doubt about it. You can see there all of a sudden, I need to flick this away, I need to try my best, because I’m not sure.

“There’s no need for people saying they have to go to VAR. He doesn’t need to go to VAR because the flag’s up on the pitch. So that’s the correct decision.”

It seems that on this occasion, Robinson has been outnumbered as the St Mirren boss is delivered a dose of reality from the Sky Sports duo.
