Chris Sutton reacts to Celtic’s defeat to Bayern Munich and what happened after Harry Kane’s goal

Celtic have their work cut out when they travel to Germany next week for the second leg of their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

With Celtic Park hosting the first leg, this was an ample chance for Brendan Rodgers’ side to take advantage and perhaps put a win on the board.

But, by the full-time whistle, there would have been mixed emotions from the home fans because Celtic suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bayern, in a game where the Bhoys took far too long to get going, and when they did, the opposition played like a nervous wreck.

Take away Nicolas Kuhn’s ruled-out effort after the first minute for offside, there wasn’t much attacking threat and Celtic were too passive.

Chris Sutton shared his thoughts on the whole matter, with an exit looming for the champions of Scotland.

Chris Sutton says Celtic improved after Harry Kane’s goal for Bayern Munich

Talk about deflating blows!

Michael Olise got the better of Greg Taylor and his curling effort into the near corner was a killer because it was the final kick of the first half.

Then, somehow, Harry Kane was unmarked at the start of the second and Bayern were 2-0 ahead, as many in green and white colours were fearing the worst.

Sutton touched upon how Celtic played with ‘fear’ in the opening 45 minutes, before Kane’s strike changed things around and there was more ‘bravery’, as he wrote on Twitter.

‘Celtic first half played with a bit of fear,’ wrote Sutton. ‘After Bayern Munich got the second, Celtic played with the desired bravery and kept fighting.

‘Tremendous finish to the game. Plenty of desire and resilience and more belief in the final third. It’ll be tough in Munich mind’.

Kasper Schmeichel’s unwanted record against Kane

Kasper Schmeichel didn’t do much wrong in between the sticks and you can’t blame him for the goals that went in.

But the Celtic number one is probably sick and tired of facing Kane now because he just doesn’t stop scoring against him.

From his days at Tottenham, and now in Bayern colours, the England striker has now netted 19 goals against Schmeichel – five more than any other keeper, as posted by OptaJoe.

’19 – Harry Kane has scored 19 goals against Kasper Schmeichel in his career for club and country, five more than he has scored against any other goalkeeper. Chesney.’

Hopefully, that is the end of that because if Celtic can stop Kane from scoring in the return leg, then there is a chance, albeit it is going to be rather tough to get something.
