Celtic fans will be waking up on Thursday morning with a spring in their step.
This comes after Celtic’s 1-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League, which booked a play-off ticket and even kept up hopes of securing an automatic spot.
Now, the latter might be pretty difficult to do, even if Celtic beat Aston Villa next week, but at least there is now an air of positivity in Europe.
For a moment, many were fearing the worst against the Champions League’s bottom-of-the-table club, especially after the drama of the first half.
From goals being disallowed to Arne Engels’ penalty being saved, and then, it was still goalless heading into the final ten minutes of the match.
But then a fantastic pass from Reo Hatate put Adam Idah through on goal and his effort hit the leg of Loris Benito and went into the back of the net.
There were joyous scenes post-match, including a positive impact from the substitute, Idah.
Chris Sutton reacts to Adam Idah claiming the goal for Celtic’s win over Young Boys
It’s the norm for strikers to claim absolutely everything, even goals they hardly touch, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that Idah is doing that here.
The Republic of Ireland star stated on the pitch, after the game, that he told his teammates that he ‘doesn’t care’ because he is claiming the goal.
But Chris Sutton was having none of it and he wasn’t in that striker’s union because he told Idah that ‘not even I would claim that goal’, as he told MOTD UEFA Champions League.
“I just said to the boys, ‘I don’t care, that’s my goal’,” said Idah. “Hopefully, it gets me on a run and I am looking forward to it.”
Sutton on Idah claiming goal: “Second half, I thought Celtic lost control actually, but then they made the subs and brought Adam Idah on.
“He is claiming that goal. Not even I would claim that goal. But it was a wonderful pass from Hatate. Celtic weren’t brave enough on the ball in the second half. Brilliant play from Hatate and the ball through to Idah. But what an important goal – whether it was his goal or not, it wasn’t.”

Pressure off Celtic ahead of Aston Villa trip
There is still a chance Celtic finish in the top eight, but even with a win at Villa, you can’t see it happening, simply because so many results need to go in your favour, but you live in hope and this new Champions League format can throw up anything.
But, at least the Bhoys travel down south with a relaxed mind and knowing that they can showcase what they are all about without that added pressure.
Sutton touched upon that and how Celtic getting through is a ‘massive achievement’ because there was pressure from the get-go to do so.
“A draw and Celtic would have been under so much pressure going into the game against Aston Villa next Wednesday,” said Sutton.
“It puts them through and it’s a massive achievement bearing in mind all the pressure on Celtic at the start of the season. This is where Celtic were going to be judged this season on the Champions League.”
