Celtic fans will be on a huge comedown after watching their team’s horrific Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland.

Celtic were embarrassed in Midtjylland during an eight-minute spell which effectively ended the game as a contest.

O’Neill’s side were riding the crest of a wave after Celtic beat Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup, but all their feel-good factor has been left dead in the water.

The latest Europa League defeat was a sore one for Celtic fans to take and Pat Bonner sums up the performance perfectly with his disgusted verdict on the collapse in Denmark.

Pat Bonner tells Celtic it’s not ‘Real Madrid’ as Hoops legend is left perplexed by Midtjylland defeat

Bonner was brutally honest as the Celtic legend sent a reminder of the level of opposition the Bhoys were facing as they were totally outclassed in Denmark.

Bonner said on BBC Radio Scotland, “I think most of us would be, sort of, kind of almost confined to Celtic in the past, that that’s how they played the game, keeping the ball.

“That’s Midtjylland doing it this time. This is Midtjylland from the Danish League.

“They’re not Real Madrid or Barcelona, or any of the big teams from England. This is a Danish team keeping the ball off Celtic just playing around them.”

The way the Danes cut Celtic open, the Parkhead club may well have been playing any of those teams the former Hoops goalkeeper rhymed off.

Celtic’s Europa League standing

With just four Europa League points from 12, Celtic are really struggling in UEFA’s second-tier competition.

At the time of writing, Celtic sit in 29th place in the league table, five places from the play-off spot.

Celtic’s next opponents, Feyenoord are also on four points and as the Parkhead club’s next opponents, the game in Rotterdam in two weeks’ time has just become that little bit more crucial.
