Fans send Benjamin Nygren a message after spotting what he did in his Celtic league debut vs St Mirren

Benjamin Nygren appears to be the one quality player Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has signed this summer.

The Swedish international had been deployed as a winger during the summer pre-season schedule but in Celtic’s win over St Mirren, Nygren was pitched into the heart of the Hoops midfield.

Nygren didn’t have the best of games after Brendan Rodgers put Arne Engels on the Celtic bench to accommodate the Swede.

But after being subbed off in the 78th minute, Nygren has been sent a message by some supporters after his competitive debut at Celtic Park.

Celtic fans want Benjamin Nygren to focus on his football after spotting his crowd antics

Fans would have been eager to see Nygren make his Celtic Park league debut after he sparkled in the summer pre-season.

But after spotting the Celtic midfielder trying to gee up the Parkhead crowd when the team was struggling to break down St Mirren, many fans have told him to concentrate on his football.

@henke_hoops wasn’t impressed either and said, “Tell him to quit the “make some noise” gestures to the crowd, especially when he has done nothing to excite the fans.”

@Stephen53704822 agree and said, “Agree – looked pathetic – do it when you are sitting on 10 goals and 20 assists and running games like Matt O Reilly did.

“Head down and hard work until that level is reached.”

The next Celtic fan had a more balanced view:

As did @BhoyMalky who offered this, “Decent debut, really needs to improve his corner kick taking though. Hardly ever beat the first man.”

In balance, it was Nygren’s first game in front of a packed Celtic Park and maybe the nerves did hit him.

But the Swede showed in flashes that he has all the attributes to be a success at the club if he knuckles down and focuses on what’s happening on the pitch and not in the stands.
