Celtic hero Scott Brown enjoyed a good weekend doing his punditry duty for Sky Sports.

Now boss at Ayr United, Brown was speaking on Sky Sports as he took in Celtic’s Flag Day celebrations against St Mirren.

Brown wasted no time in making his mark as the Celtic legend wound up Kris Boyd ahead of the big trophy celebrations after he correctly stated that his fellow Sky Sports pundit has rarely enjoyed these special days.

And at full-time, the former Celtic captain was at it again as Boyd delivered his verdict on Callum McGregor’s disallowed goal for the Bhoys against St Mirren.

The VAR controversy that surrounded McGregor’s goal carried on into the Sky Sports studio as Eilidh Barbour asked Kris Boyd for his verdict on the video referee’s decision.

Barbour said on Sky Sports, “Another Scottish player thought that he perhaps put them ahead. Callum McGregor denied. He thought it came off higher up on his arm. Did VAR get this one right?”

Boyd: “100%”

Barbour: “I mean I’m asking the wrong person, aren’t I?”

Brown: “You are asking the wrong person.”

Boyd: “I’m just stating the rules of the game. If it hits your hand and it leads to a goal then it’s going to be chopped off.

“I mean, you can quite clearly see that it hits his elbow, then he puts it back in the back of the net.

“You can’t change the rules for teams. It’s a handball. A handball is a handball.

“As soon as I saw that, I said it straight away. It looks like it was a hand ball. And we’ve been over-critical of referees in Scotland for a long period of time. They’ve got that one right.”

Celtic’s Champions League play-off draw

Celtic have drawn either Kairat Almaty or Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League play-off fixture.

The Hoops will be keen to be in the hat for the lucrative group phase in which Brendan Rodgers enjoyed immense success last season.

With £40m minimum up for grabs, the Celtic board will be equally keen to reach the group stage so that they can hand Rodgers a huge chunk of that Champions League cash to strengthen the team.

Or, at least, that’s what the Celtic fans will be hoping.
