Five things we learned as five-star Celtic hammer St Johnstone to book Scottish Cup final spot

Celtic made light work of St Johnstone to book their place in the Scottish Cup final.

The Bhoys have a 100 per cent record under Brendan Rodgers in Scottish Cup semi-finals and continued that in emphatic style.

Rodgers’ side raced into a 4-0 lead at half-time thanks to goals from Callum McGregor, a brace from Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah.

Jota came off the bench to complete the rout as the Hoops beat St Johnstone 5-0 in the most convincing fashion.

It was as dominant as they come and now another Treble-winning season remains well and truly on.

With that, here’s five things we learned from the performance at Hampden Park.

Celtic get revenge over St Johnstone

It was only a couple of weeks ago that St Johnstone beat Celtic in a surprise turn of events to deny them the chance to win the Scottish Premiership.

After that game, Brendan Rodgers called out Celtic’s players but there was no repeat of that this time around.

A demolition job done and dusted within half an hour, Celtic took no mercy on the side from Perth.

Another Treble looks inevitable

With the Scottish League Cup secured and the Scottish Premiership title likely to be confirmed next week, Rodgers and co will have their eye on a Treble-winning season.

Aberdeen await on Saturday 24 May in a final showdown for the last domestic trophy of the season available and may also give the likes of Greg Taylor the chance to say goodbye to supporters if that’s his final game for the club.

Once again, it was the captain who led by example as he broke the deadlock in the 34th minute.

The Bhoys had dominated proceedings but were unable to find the breakthrough before McGregor’s strike.

It was his 10th goal of the season and he then turned provider shortly after as he layed on a through ball for Maeda to score. An outstanding display.

The Adam Idah conundrum

It was another mixed bag from Idah, who was withdrawn on the hour mark. He scored a goal and had a few half-chances here and there, but there wasn’t much else to add to his performance.

In a game against poorer opposition, this would’ve been the perfect time for the number nine to notch a brace, bully his defensive opponents and show he should be the first-choice next season.

We know Rodgers wants new signings, a striker should be one.

The Hampden Park allocation

Unsurprisingly, Celtic outnumbered the St Johnstone fans inside Hampden, but there will still plenty of seats available.

Of course, St Johnstone are entitled to a certain allocation but, if it’s not fulfilled and there’s still seats to fill, why not Celtic supporters fill them?

The appetite to do so would’ve been there and a full Hampden Park is always better than a half-full one.
