Former FIFA referee delivers verdict on Rangers striker Bojan Miovski’s Celtic penalty claim

Celtic’s goalless draw with Rangers passed with relatively little controversy.

The only real incident where VAR had to get involved was in the penalty ‘claim’ where Celtic defender Liam Scales appeared to have fouled new Rangers striker Bojan Miovski.

The on-field referee Don Robertson waved away the claim and VAR backed that up after reviewing the incident but that hasn’t stopped many believing that the spot kick was missed in Celtic’s draw with Rangers.

However, after Miovski appears to suggest that he was fouled, former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg has delivered his verdict as he clamps the Rangers striker’s spot kick claim.

What Rangers’ Bojan Miovski said about Celtic penalty shout

At first glance, it looked like Celtic had conceded a penalty when Liam Scales appeared to have barged Miovski.

And the Rangers striker believed he should have had a spot kick as he said of the Celtic penalty incident, “Yeah, I didn’t check, but I felt that he touched my leg, so this is why I fell down. I don’t know, but I didn’t check the video.”

Well, VAR did and they said it wasn’t a spot kick.

And that decision was reinforced by former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg.

Miovski was thrown into Rangers’ starting lineup against Celtic, and the former Aberdeen man didn’t waste time in creating controversy.

And Clattenburg has told the Rangers striker that he tried to buy a penalty against Celtic defender Liam Scales.

Clattenburg told 67 Hail Hail, “Bojan Miovski of Rangers goes down under a challenge of Liam Scales of Celtic.

“It was the first big call for the referee Don Robertson in this fierce derby and he got it spot on.

“Miovski moved across Scales to create a contact of the upper leg of Scales to make it look like a foul and the referee was in a good position to see that the contact was created by the Rangers player so it was a good call to play on.”

Miovski didn’t trouble the Celtic defence apart from that one incident as the former Aberdeen man toiled to get a shot on goal.

Celtic now have just over 12 hours of the transfer window to bring in reinforcements for the season ahead and, hopefully, a striker to help replace Adam Idah who is on his way out of the club.
