Gustaf Lagerbielke compares Celtic teammate to Robin van Persie after 3-0 win over St Mirren

After beating Rangers over the weekend, the Celtic players did even better to respond with a comprehensive 3-0 win over St Mirren.

A brilliant start to the New Year by Celtic and Brendan Rodgers, with the game more or less being done and dusted inside ten minutes when Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley got themselves on the scoresheet.

Another player who was an unlikely scorer yesterday was Greg Taylor and he was compared to ‘Van Persie’ by Gustaf Lagerbielke on Instagram

The 26-year-old posted ‘great start to 2024’, before getting praised in the comments section by his teammates, including Hyeongyu Oh joking and calling him a ‘scoring machine’.

It’s great to see the Celtic players spread the goals around and head into the break top of the table with destiny in their own hands.

Just like Greg Taylor did in the Glasgow derby, he was causing havoc on that inside left channel, with his clever runs and ability to play in midfield.

That’s something fans are hoping to see more of as the season progresses because this is where the consistency needs to start to pick up.

Celtic picking up the pace

After those back-to-back defeats, let’s be honest, things were looking grim for the team and many people weren’t happy.

It wasn’t a great look when there were chants of ‘sack the board’, but all of that now seems to be a long time ago.

The reaction from that has been superb and if that is the worst of the season, then there is no reason why the title won’t be delivered again.

It’s going to be interesting to see what also happens in the January transfer window because action is expected, it’s just a case of what areas will Rodgers be adding to.
