Robin van Persie has reacted after watching his Feyenoord side get taken apart by Celtic in the Europa League.

Celtic beat Feyenoord after Martin O’Neill’s side went behind to an early Ueda goal and it looked like it was going to be a long night for the Bhoys.

However, Celtic fought back in emphatic style after Hyunjun Yang’s superb equaliser on the half hour mark as Reo Hatate put the Hoops ahead just before the break.

Benjamin Nygren put the cherry on top of an historic Celtic win and it left Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie absolutely gutted.

Robin van Persie talks up Celtic after Feyenoord hammering

The Dutch legend is now looking like his Feyenoord team are out of the competition but even so, van Persie’s reaction to the defeat was classy.

Van Persie told TNT Sports via CBS Sports Golazo, “I think it was, from our point of view, flat first half, we didn’t concede a lot of chances against us. So there was what that was. Okay.

“Scored a really good first goal. Great pass from Valenta, really good touch from Sam and Ayasa finished it inside the post. So that was good, that part.

“But we didn’t get enough pressure on Celtic, in my opinion, that triggers we wanted to take was quite difficult.

“Then the 1-1 from Celtic point of view, was a good goal, was a good run in behind, but everyone knows what to do there.

“And the way we defended that together with left full-back, centre back and midfielder wasn’t great, and I know it goes really fast, but we should have done better there to avoid that.

“The second goal we just gave away, I think it starts with Steijn, who’s dropping a little bit too low, our left centre back ends up with the goalkeeper, takes too much time, and it’s particularly just a present as simple as that.

“Then you slowly, from our point of view, without playing amazing, growing into the game, creating a couple of chances, bit unlucky with the header which hit the crossbar.

“And so we’re staying in the game until the end, and then we, in my opinion, gave away the third goal from a throw in.

“That’s too easy. After the throw in, Celtic only needed two passes to score. That’s, from our point of view, not good enough.”

What Celtic defeat has done to Feyenoord’s Europa League dream

Celtic’s win in Rotterdam has effectively ended Feyenoord’s Europa League campaign in embarrassing fashion.

The Eredivise second-placed team have been having a rough time of it domestically after Feyenoord’s heavy home defeat at the weekend.

Sitting 31st with just three points, even if Feyenoord win their next two games, their chances of getting out of the league phase is pretty much nil.
