Celtic comfortably beat Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon in a game that David Watson will certainly want to forget.

Kilmarnock lost 4-0 to the Hoops, who dominated from start to finish.

Goals from Johnny Kenny, Kieran Tierney, Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels ensured it was a positive result going into the international break.

For Kilmarnock though, it was an opportunity for their star man to prove he has what it takes to play for the Bhoys.

Watson has been linked with a January move to Celtic, and had the chance to show what he was made of.

David Watson struggles to make an impact against Celtic

The 20-year-old was named in the starting XI for the Ayrshire side’s visit to Parkhead and knew he was in for a long afternoon.

Despite one brief moment where he was able to carry the ball deep into the Celtic half before having his attack nullified, the youngster was unable to leave his mark on the game.

Callum McGregor ran the show in the middle of the park, depriving him of any opportunities and preventing him from getting his foot on the ball.

Sofascore handed him a 6.8 rating for his 79-minute display before being replaced by Liam Polworth, with his stand-out statistics on the day being his defending, unsurprisingly.

Celtic could land David Watson in cut-price deal

With Watson’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Celtic and other clubs around Europe will be able to speak to the 20-year-old about a pre-contract agreement.

However, there may be a chance to strike sooner and use the remaining time left on his deal to sanction an earlier move in January.

It is clear that Celtic need a new lease of life in their squad, and the energy of Watson in the middle of the park could be a huge catalyst in the ongoing title race.
