Celtic’s summer transfer business was left incomplete.
In the end, it led to Brendan Rodgers leaving the club, with his external comments pushing the club’s patience too far.
Martin O’Neill was hired in his place last week, and since then, things have looked upward with a 4-0 win over Falkirk and Sunday’s 3-1 defeat of Rangers at Hampden.
Dermot Desmond’s statement made it absolutely clear that he was not impressed by how Rodgers had handled himself – he also made it clear that the 52-year-old had green-lit every signing in his tenure.
And with no permanent manager currently in place, the club are already reportedly preparing for January – and are eyeing Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson.
Celtic targeting January move for Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson
Watson is the captain of Scotland’s under-21 side, and his contract at Rugby Park expires at the end of the season.
With the Hoops under pressure to meet the European quota of eight homegrown players (four club-trained, four nation-trained) in order to register a full squad, Watson has come onto their radar.

According to Stephen McGowan of The Herald, Watson’s transfer value has dropped from £1.2 million in the summer to a lower number.
However, Kilmarnock may hold off from a sale in order to keep one of their best players and increase their chances of survival.
The 20-year-old started roughly half of Killie’s games last season under Derek McInnes, but has played every league minute this season under Stuart Kettlewell.
His name may be especially familiar to Celtic fans given that he has scored in three separate matches against the Hoops already in his career.
Most recently, that was in the Celts’ 2-1 win at Rugby Park which was secured by a late Kelechi Iheanacho penalty.
With Celtic already fairly stacked in the midfield area, it would be intriguing to see where the energetic Watson would fit in at Celtic Park.
A major factor in that would be whoever is in the dugout at Parkhead come January.
Watson was included in 67 Hail Hail’s three SPFL players Celtic should be targeting last month. If he comes in, that would be one down, and two to go…
