How Leicester City reacted to Kasper Schmeichel helping Celtic beat Rangers on penalties

Kasper Schmeichel has lifted his first piece of silverware as a Celtic player, and hopefully, there is more to come.

The 38-year-old did the unthinkable during his career and lived the dream of helping Leicester City win the Premier League title against all odds in 2016.

And, after Celtic beat Rangers on penalties in the League Cup final on Sunday, the dream of winning a Treble is on for the shot-stopper in his first season at Parkhead.

There is a long way to go and even Schmeichel himself will want to tone down the excitement of that happening, despite the manner in which Celtic won at Hampden.

It was dramatic, nervy and heart-stopping throughout, with six goals scored, extra time and a perfect penalty shootout for the Bhoys.

Every Celtic player scored their penalty, including Daizen Maeda’s trophy-winning spot-kick after Schmeichel saved Rıdvan Yılmaz’s penalty.

This is a moment Schmeichel will cherish forever and he expressed that on Instagram after the match.

He couldn’t have put it better when he stated ‘this is what this club is all about’ as he had a beaming smile on his face whilst holding the trophy.

“No better feeling in football,” wrote Schmeichel on IG. “This is what this club is all about.

“Magical night. Love this team.”

In the comments section of Schmeichel’s IG post, several players sent their congratulations to the player, including his former club in England.

Not only did Schmeichel win the Premier League title with Leicester under Claudio Ranieri, but he also won the FA Cup with Rodgers.

Whilst the man the Denmark international replaced in the summer – the retired Joe Hart – also reacted in the comments section of his IG post.

Leicester City’s official IG account applauded their former player, along with Hart and England international James Trafford added ‘what a goalie’.

Daizen Maeda sent a heart emoji to Schmeichel, whilst former Manchester United and Leicester defender Danny Simpson added ‘Congratulations to you and the team, bro. More silverware’.
