How Martin O’Neill has built a home away from home that is fuelling Celtic’s title charge

Martin O’Neill seems to have built a home away from home that is the reason behind the Hoops’ late title charge.

O’Neill has won more points than any other Celtic manager this season and the 74-year-old has lost more games in Europe than he has domestically.

A visit to Tannadice Park to face Dundee United awaits for the Bhoys this weekend and given their form on the road, it is hard to imagine any other than three points.

Celtic’s incredible away form under Martin O’Neill

Since his first game in charge away from Celtic Park, a 1-0 win away to St Mirren, Celtic have won more points (20) on the road than any other side in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have won six, drawn two and lost two (both of those under Wilfried Nancy) since that day and has found them two points behind Hearts.

Crucial last-minute wins such as Julian Araujo’s stoppage time goal against Kilmarnock have been a huge help in the turning point and built the foundations for Celtic to chip away at the lead that Derek McInnes’ side previously had.

How Celtic’s away form compares to Hearts and Rangers since O’Neill return

While Celtic have made themselves a force to be reckoned with away from home, their title challengers haven’t hit those same heights.

Since the return of the Hoops legend, Hearts and Rangers have faltered on the road more often.

Hearts have picked up 14 points in that time while Danny Rohl’s side have 13 points from the same timeframe.

Not only is it a sign that cracks have appeared in the two rivals, it is testament to how talented O’Neill is and why people like Ange Postecoglou say he is a ‘one in a million’ manager.
