How the Serbian media reacted to Marko Arnautovic’s clash with Celtic’s Liam Scales

One thing you can’t dispute is that Marko Arnautovic is quite the character, and he proved that against Celtic on Wednesday night.

Celtic and Red Star Belgrade shared the spoils in their Europa League opener, with Arnautovic, who left Inter during the summer, starting up top against the champions of Scotland.

After Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring at the start of the second half, that’s when the home side tried putting their foot on the accelerator.

Of course, the man who levelled the scores was Arnautovic, as he and Liam Scales had a rather interesting face-off moments later.

Marko Arnautovic and Liam Scales come face-to-face

You see players clash quite a lot, but not soon after somebody has scored, but this is what happened here, and it was actually funny to watch.

Arnautovic, who had the ball in hand, was the one to approach Scales, with the Celtic man standing his ground as they came head-to-head, before both players were ushered away from one another.

Kasper Schmeichel and Callum McGregor were also unhappy at what happened, as they began arguing with other Belgrade players, before they were swiftly told by the Celtic skipper to get back to their mark.

Some people may not like this, but as long as there are handshakes afterwards, then it’s great entertainment for the game.

Serbian outlet Nova Sport ran a story on the incident, including how Arnautovic and Scales ‘got in each other’s faces.’

The story also mentioned how Belgrade forward Mirko Ivanić ‘ran up’ and also clashed with Schmeichel.

Nova further added, ‘everything was short-lived,’ and it didn’t escalate any further, which was the case.
