Hugh Keevins changes his mind on Hyunjun Yang after his latest run of form for Celtic

This past month has been an utter mess for Celtic.

In truth, Celtic’s whole campaign, aside from Martin O’Neill’s interim spells, have been problematic and resulted in the club’s decline on and off the pitch.

But during Wilfried Nancy’s reign in Glasgow, and now that he is out of the door, you could argue that one player has been able to hold his head up high, and that’s Hyunjun Yang.

For a long time, Yang was on the receiving end of some verbal pelters by many critics, including Hugh Keevins, but they are now changing their minds.

How good has Yang been this past month?

Hugh Keevins lauds and applauds Hyunjun Yang’s run of form for Celtic

Celtic beat Dundee United 4-0 on Saturday, with Yang opening the scoring following his brilliant effort from outside the box.

It needs to be noted that Yang scored a brilliant solo goal against Rangers, but it was all in vain because of the mess of that match, and what followed.

Nonetheless, speaking on Clyde 1, Keevins was asked about his previous comments on Yang, and whether he now changes his mind on the forward.

“I applaud Yang, back-to-back goals,” said Keevins. “He looks a far more adventurous player than he has ever been before.

“I think I wasn’t along when Yang was in his early days at Celtic. He was poor.

“But he is coming onto a game, and he is a bright spark. There has been a lot of negativity since Wilfried Nancy got here.

“Yang has become a bright spark for Celtic, and I applaud him for hanging in there.

“Martin O’Neill can only pick what he has got. He is clearly looking at Yang and saying, ‘There is something there.’

“It has been a long shift for him. He is now starting to look like a bright spark.”

Who is Celtic’s Man of the Match vs Dundee United?

Could Celtic still do better than Yang?

The January transfer window is open, and it could be argued that Celtic still need to bring in a right-sided winger to balance out the forward line.

Given Yang’s current form, should the Hoops dip into the market? Gordon Dalziel certainly thinks there are still ‘better’ options out there.

“I have got to say, Hugh, where I will back you slightly is that I always thought there was something in Yang,” claimed Dalziel.

“He’s starting to produce this. I think he has been terrific in the last few games.

“My big question is, could Celtic get someone better in that position than Yang? I would probably say, yes. Take nothing away from him. He’s really playing his part now.”
