Hyunjun Yang received plenty of plaudits for his performance in Celtic’s win against Dundee.

Yang was credited with Celtic’s opener, despite a debate about whether he or Benjamin Nygren got the final touch. 67 Hail Hail fans said the South Korean did get the decisive touch, as did the adjudicators.

The winger has become a key player under Martin O’Neill and arguably enjoying his best season since coming to Glasgow. His timing couldn’t be better with a World Cup on the horizon and media back in his homeland have been keeping a close eye on his developments.

Hyunjun Yang praised for involvement in Celtic win

In addition to opening the scoring, the 23-year-old also played a role in getting defender Ryan Astley sent off after he was fouled by the centre-back when running through on goal.

South Korean media were delighted to see him grab his ninth of the season and feel that he changed the game.

Yang’s goal drew strong praise for its composure, with Star News Korea describing his finish as “calm and precise in a crucial moment.”

Chosun Biz pointed out how the winger is becoming more and more influential in games, adding that he is “increasingly decisive in key situations” while Seoul Economic Daily stated that Yang “continues to deliver when it matters most.”

Yang is a player of the season contender for Celtic

If you had uttered the words ‘Yang has a good chance of being named the player of the season’, everyone would have presumed it was a wind-up.

‘Yang gang’ has previously been mentioned as a joke but now it is something everyone wants to be a part of.

He is now only one goal away from reaching double figures for the campaign, something only Benjamin Nygren has managed.

There is still lots for him to improve, but we are now at a point where he is one of the first choices in the starting XI and has been a consistent performer all year long.
