Ryan McGowan was left surprised when Kris Boyd felt that the correct call was made to award Celtic a penalty during their 4-1 thumping of Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.
Celtic went into the break with a 2-0 lead and proceeded to start the second half like a house on fire as they attacked Hearts’ penalty box from the get-go.
As Kyogo Faruhashi tried to protect the ball from inside the penalty area, Hearts fullback Alex Cochrane proceeded to bring him down after a late and sloppy challenge.
Even though Reo Hatate went on to miss his spot-kick, Ryan McGowan stated after the game ‘I can’t believe that has been given as a penalty’.
But Kris Boyd made it clear to him that ‘If I am saying it’s a penalty for Celtic, then you know it’s a penalty’, as he told Sky Sports Football (22/10/23 at 4:35 pm).
Hearts or Alex Cochrane couldn’t complain because he got nowhere near the ball, as Kyogo Faruhashi tried to turn with the ball.
Either way, the Bhoys went on to blow away a helpless Hearts side, who had no answer to Brendan Rodgers’ side just going all guns blazing in Edinburgh.
Kris Boyd on Celtic penalty
“It’s a shocking start from Hearts,” said McGowan. “I can’t believe that has been given as a penalty.
“Kris Boyd thinks it’s a penalty, which probably sums up everything you need to know about it.”
Boyd responded: “If I am saying it’s a penalty for Celtic, then you know it’s a penalty.”

Celtic’s attack thriving
Nine games in. Still unbeaten. 23 goals scored. And seven points clear of Rangers.
Celtic’s attack has more than stuck its chest out this season, with the likes of Matt O’Riley taking their attacking game to the next level – Gustaf Lagerbielke lauded O’Riley after the win v Hearts.
And new faces, such as Luis Palma, stepping up and producing the goods in crucial moments.
What’s even better is that Celtic’s attack still has a few more levels to hit because players are still connecting with one another and the bench strength is only picking up.
