At this stage, a lot of Celtic fans will be satisfied with a positive result against Dundee, but not Ange Postecoglou.
No, for the new Bhoys boss, it’s got to be about more than that. After saying that the raucous Celtic Park atmosphere has to be earned, Postecoglou has laid out what he expects from his side.
And what he expects? Good football, and a convincing result.
Ahead of the visit of Dundee, the Celtic boss said [Sky Sports]:
“It’s important for our league campaign that we get a result because if we are going to have success this year, we have to start winning games on a regular basis.
“When we stick to our football, in every game we have played in periods when we control the game the way I want to and look really good. We just haven’t been able to do it consistently.
“We just have to keep improving our football. The result is important but my gut always tells me that it’s the football that will get you there.
“If we want success, we have got to keep improving our football because even if we win on Sunday, if it’s not convincing it’s still going to show me that we have a way to go.”
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is a long way from being satisfied, and that bodes well for Dundee clash
If you recall when Celtic were first linked with Ange Postecoglou, do you remember what we learned about him? It seems like an age ago, but it’s important to recall.
Amongst the early tidbits of info, we learned he had sky-high standards for his players. That he’s ruthless in the pursuit of excellent, winning football, and works incredibly hard at it.
So, safe to say Celtic’s performances thus far won’t have satisfied the Greek-Aussie boss. Really, Dundee ought to consider Ange’s words a profound warning; Postecoglou is desperate for his players to prove they’re closer to fitting into his vision.
If there’s even a hint of it, like we saw on Thursday night, we’re onto something potentially special. In the meantime, Postecoglou still has plenty of challenges, in terms of cohesion, personnel and simply building form.
Tomorrow, then, is a great opportunity to really get this Celtic team going. Anything less, and Postecoglou might need to make some big decisions about who fits into his vision, and who doesn’t.
