Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is feeling good after helping the Bhoys to a 2-0 victory against St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

The Greek forward was handed his first-ever start after an impressive cameo against Ferencvaros on Tuesday night and he didn’t disappoint.

Finding himself free in the box, he connected with Anthony Ralston’s low cross to blast a close-range effort home and send Celtic on the route to victory.

After the game, he was delighted and talked up his potential to get even better in a Celtic shirt.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland [17:12], the Greek striker said: “It’s amazing. It’s an amazing feeling and something I was missing so much. It took time for me to get back fit and to participate in the games. Finally, I’m getting closer.

“I’m not really a patient guy, so for me, it was a little bit difficult. I worked hard and I’m much better. Day by day, game by game I’m feeling better and better.

“I’m not getting crazy, I’m focused on helping the team, not just by scoring goals but doing other things on the field.”

Ange Postecoglou now has a legitimate alternative striker option to Kyogo, who can still help the team out on the wing. The Japanese forward may well be better deployed through the middle towards the end of a game when defenders’ legs are tired.

We’ve had to remain patient but there are early signs last season’s top scorer in Eredivisie can have a big say for Celtic this season.

It’ll be very interesting to see what team the manager goes with away to Hibernian on Wednesday night.
