Motherwell boss Graham Alexander had nothing but good things to say about Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side today after being humbled 4-0 at home in the Scottish Premiership.
Alexander obviously wasn’t a happy man after the match after watching his side crash to a heavy defeat in front of his own fans.
However, he couldn’t help but credit the Bhoys for the way they played, not just with the ball, but off it too.

Celtic too good for Motherwell
Speaking to The Glasgow Times, the Motherwell boss said: “First and foremost, they are a quality team who work their socks off and they have a great humility about how they go about it. It’s not just about when they’ve got the ball. It’s how they make you feel when you’ve got the ball.
“We are trying to aspire to being a better team and I’d rather my team went like that than just sit back and wait to get beat. You try to get that first goal to give yourself something to play for, but if they get it, it’s extremely difficult.
“I actually thought we had our best spell when we conceded the first goal. We had a decent amount of pressure in their final third. We had some opportunities in their box but couldn’t quite get the final shot off. We were growing into the game but they had the quality to hit us on the counter.
“I know we could have defended the first goal a lot better but we have to acknowledge they are a fantastic team with a lot of good players.”
This is a pretty honest assessment of the encounter, as much as Alexander wants to stick up for his players.
Celtic were absolutely relentless today and the brutal thing for Motherwell is it really could’ve been five, six or seven to zero by the end of the 90 minutes.
Look at the first goal, for an example of Alexander’s words. Daizen Maeda presses the ball, his teammates bunch up and suddenly defender Greg Taylor is one man to play the dangerous pass forward.

The third goal was also a stunning display of team football.
On the ball and off the ball, Celtic are a cohesive unit right now. Players work for each other and combine when necessary. Yes, there are individual stars but this is a collective unit worth getting excited about.
