Celtic’s win over Atheltic Club really was a fitting tribute to James Forrest. The Celtic winger endured a game of two halves as the Hoops defeated the La Liga side.

Celtic overturned a 2-1 halftime scoreline to win 3-2 against Athletic Club after goals from Reo Hatate, Alexandro Bernabei and David Turnbull ensured that Forrest’s night ended on a high as the Celtic legend took in the applause from the Celtic Park crowd.

Forrest revealed that he was nervous in the run-up to the big night but was delighted at how the night panned out and praised everyone connected with the club for making it such a special night.

Forrest said [Celtic TV], “The last couple of days I feel as though going into the game I was quite nervous. I’ve not normally been like that for any other game that I’ve had.

Actually getting to the stadium tonight it made me feel so much better. I think seeing the boys, being with the fans and seeing my friends and family, it was just incredible.

“Right from the start I got to the stadium, I really enjoyed it.

“Obviously everyone is saying it’s my night, I feel as though it’s everyone’s. The fans, players and the staff, I honestly couldn’t have done it without everyone. I’m delighted at how the night went.

Forrest continued, “I came off and we were 2-1 down, and obviously in the second half the team done really well. Everything about tonight I’ve just thoroughly enjoyed.”

And looking forward to next season with Celtic?

And it seems like Forrest isn’t done yet. Although the Hoops winger is no longer a first pick at Celtic, Forrest is still determined to be a part of any success we enjoy this season.

Forrest said, “It’s amazing. I’ve really enjoyed pre-season. We were away for a good couple of weeks in Portugal and Japan with the boys.

“I’m 32 but I’m still really enjoying it. It’s all I’ve known. It’s a great place to be. I’ve loved every minute of it and I want to keep doing what I can for the club.”

It was a great night for the Celtic legend and one that he is not likely to forget in a hurry. As a packed Celtic Park stayed on at the end of the match to applaud the winger, Forrest took in the adulation and was clearly emotional in the interview.

For now, though, Forrest can go and enjoy the rest of his night because in less than six days time, the new season starts and he could very well be involved at some stage or another.
