Celtic delivered their biggest statement yet as they thrashed Aberdeen 6-0 in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Saturday at Hampden.
Kick-off was delayed by at least ten minutes between Celtic and Aberdeen, but that was just the start of the frustration Jimmy Thelin’s side would have endured.
Only a few weeks ago, Aberdeen came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Parkhead, but fast forward to the present and they were dismissed by the champions like they are a struggling Premiership side.
Yes, Aberdeen deserve to be the second-best team in Scotland, but it proves the gap between Celtic and the rest.
There were many standout performers for the Bhoys, with Cameron Carter-Vickers opening the scoring, Kyogo Furuhashi finding the back of the net in another big game, Daizen Maeda showing his ruthless side and scoring a hat-trick, as well as Nicolas Kuhn continuing his fine start to the season.
After the game, Maeda took to social media to react to his performance and he was lauded and applauded in the comments section.
Daizen Maeda reacts to hat-trick for Celtic against Aberdeen
Maeda is an ever-popular player at Celtic, but that finishing touch has been lacking since Ange Postecoglou brought him in.
But it’s fair to say that is now starting to change because he has nine goals in all competitions this season.
After his hat-trick heroics at Hampden, Maeda thanked the Celtic faithful by writing a simple message on Instagram.
“Thank you for your amazing support today,” wrote Maeda.
Joe Hart, Adam Idah and Albian Ajeti react to Maeda’s performance
Joe Hart retired this summer, but he was at Celtic last season, so he would have seen first-hand the danger Maeda possesses.
That performance against Aberdeen was one of his best yet and Hart rightfully applauded the player in the comments section of his IG post, added with a fire emoji.
Albian Ajeti sent lightning emojis to one of the quickest players in Europe, whilst Adam Idah, who came off the bench, sent a fire emoji and a love heart eyes emoji to his teammate.
