Partick Thistle boss delivered a very honest assessment after watching Celtic beat his side 4-0 in the Premier Sports Cup.

The former Celtic man was in the dugout as he watched Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys pick apart Thistle in the League Cup quarter-final.

The 4-0 win was emphatic as Celtic blew Thistle away, and Wilson was left with no option but to praise the visiting side.

And after watching goals from Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang, Liam Scales, Sebastian Tounekti, and Luke McCowan take the Hoops into the semi-final against Rangers, Wilson offered no excuses as he talked up the Parkhead club with his post-match analysis of the result.

Mark Wilson rues ‘poor’ Celtic goals conceded by Partick Thistle

Speaking post-match, the Thistle boss said he was ‘disappointed’ to lose the game but admitted all the pressure in the game was applied by Celtic.

Wilson told BBC Sport Scotland, “Disappointed in the final result but a lot of people would have expected that. A lot to learn from it when you come up against that level of opposition.

“Disappointed to lose the goals in the fashion we did, I thought they were poor, and the timings as well.

“We sat in too deep at times. I wanted us to be brave and put Celtic under more pressure but the tide was going one way.

“A team like Celtic will play through you but I was pleased at the players’ reaction in the second half and how they stuck at it.

“I was always taking this game in isolation as we’re never going to come up against opposition like this in our league. We’ll stick to our process and hopefully we’ll see the fruits of that in the Championship.

“It’s been a long time since Firhill has been packed like that and it means so much to the club.”

Celtic draw Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final

Celtic now face Rangers in the big Hampden semi-final in the Premier Sports Cup in November.

Brendan Rodgers met the Ibrox club in the final last season as Celtic played out a 3-3 draw with Rangers only to win the cup on penalties after a goalless extra time.

The Celtic fans will be hoping that the semi-final will be more straightforward and that the Bhoys will take care of business in the regulation 90 minutes.
