BBC man’s pain after admitting what he ‘hates saying’ about Celtic beating Partick Thistle

After a slow start to the game, Celtic were pretty rampant in their 4-0 win over Partick Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup.

Goals from Hyunjun Yang, Liam Scales, Sebastian Tounekti and Luke McCowan put the lid on a comprehensive win that saw Celtic beat Thistle to progress into the semi-final of the cup.

Much of the headlines are surrounding the Celtic fan protests as the travelling Hoops support continued their campaign against the Parkhead board.

But it was the manner of the win and how clinical Celtic were that left one BBC pundit in pain at Firhill yesterday afternoon.

BBC pundit Ian McCall hates to admit Celtic deserved their 4-0 win vs Partick Thistle

Brendan Rodgers named a much-changed Celtic side to face Partick Thistle in the quarter-final of the Premier Sports Cup.

And even without the likes of Daizen Maeda and Michel-Ange Balikwisha in the starting line-up, Celtic still managed to hammer four goals past Thistle to leave BBC man Ian McCall in pain.

McCall told BBC Radio Scotland, “The amount of times that they got in down that side through Hatate, the really marvellous Tounekti and Tierney, it was just happening constantly, as you probably saw in the first half.

“Constantly, a goal was just always going to come from that area, they got a bit fortunate the end, but Thistle never quite managed to stop that problem.

“You know, Thomas asked me about 4-0, to be honest, it was a pretty… I hate saying it, I thought it was a pretty fair reflection on the game, to be honest, that score.”

The time Celtic left BBC man McCall in pain about Rangers

This isn’t the first time McCall has been left feeling sore about Celtic.

There was a time when the BBC pundit was speaking about the Parkhead club’s finances compared to Rangers’ that sparked a bizarre rant from the former Falkirk boss.

McCall said back in February, “The problem for Rangers just now, is the benchmark, since I’ve been involved in Scottish football, is Celtic.

“And there’s no comparison just now, and it’s really, really unfair because Celtic, financially and on the pitch, and everyone else, are just miles ahead.

“The good news is it might not take, some people think that’s going to take six years to bridge. That might not happen.

“You have two good windows and you have two terrible windows, as you’ve seen at some of the clubs down south.”

It seems McCall finds Celtic a difficult pill to swallow whenever the Bhoys see success both on and off the park.

Let’s hope the BBC man will be in more pain if Celtic beat Rangers in the semi-final in November.
