Kieran Tierney has discussed Martin O’Neill and the Celtic fans after Saturday’s win over Motherwell.

Tierney returned from an injury that kept him out of last week’s Glasgow Derby at Ibrox, being thrown straight back into the starting XI by O’Neill.

Celtic Park was buzzing with how the second half went, with a palpable atmosphere even in the absence of the Green Brigade.

Speaking after the game, Tierney credited the Hoops fans, also revealing O’Neill’s message about the team’s ‘spirit’.

“Martin was talking about the spirit of the team behind such a high pressure.

“If you look back over the course of the season, the amount of last minute winners we’ve scored and points won late in the games, it shows the mentality of the squad.

“Of course you would not want to be doing that every week but today, I think the second half especially played really well, showed what we can play like.”

On the fans, Tierney said: “I think even in the second half you could see it more so and that’s down to us because we gave them more to get behind.

“We were attacking better, we were pressing better and I think the second half is how it should be going forward.

“You can see the benefit for that. The players want all the fans behind us, we want the atmosphere to be brilliant. Celtic Park is what it’s known for so we’re delighted when it’s like that.”

Martin O’Neill’s Celtic changes vs Motherwell

O’Neill made three changes to Celtic’s team against Motherwell, of which Tierney was one.

Tierney was one of the Hoops’ standout players before being replaced by Marcelo Saracchi on 78 minutes.

Also back in the team was Colby Donovan, who was reintroduced out of necessity due to an injury to Julian Araujo. The teenager’s performance wasn’t one of his best this season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also trusted to start, taking the place of Luke McCowan. Jens Berthel Askou was not happy at the Englishman’s early tackle don Elijah Just.
