Daizen Maeda’s hat-trick drowned Aberdeen to a humbling 6-0 defeat at the hands of a rampant Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Celtic didn’t even give Aberdeen a chance as they battered them across Hampden and showcased the huge gap between the two teams.
Yes, Jimmy Thelin’s side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Parkhead in the Premiership last month, but the champions should have been out of sight during that game also and were then punished.
After kick-off delayed between Celtic and Aberdeen, it didn’t take too long for that ruthless nature to kick in.
On top of Maeda’s hat trick, Kyogo Furuhashi, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Nicolas Kuhn also got themselves a goal.
Understandably so, a lot of noise and praise was around Maeda’s name because he caused the opposition no end of problems in his typical all-action style.
But Michael Stewart wanted to give flowers to another Celtic player.
Nicolas Kuhn having a ‘very good’ season for Celtic after 6-0 win over Aberdeen
You could argue that Kuhn’s curling effort was the pick of the bunch because goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov had no chance.
But Celtic fans won’t be surprised by Kuhn’s effort or performance because he has started the season strongly.
Stewart explained how it was ‘another brilliant’ performance from the player and his season so far in the green and white colours has been ‘very good’, as he told Premier Sports (02/11/24 at 7:55 pm)
“That was a dominant performance from Celtic as I have seen in a long time,” said Stewart. “It was an all-round performance.
“Obviously, Maeda was outstanding, but so many other players. Nicolas Kuhn had another brilliant afternoon, but the overall performance was outstanding.
“This season he has been very, very good for them and he has continued to get better. This was probably up there with his best performance. This finish was outstanding because he shifts it and gets it away so quickly. It’s difficult for Jack MacKenzie to adjust his feet to try and get the ball. For Mitov, it’s impossible to get anywhere near it because it’s underneath the side of the crossbar and in the back of the net. Just a brilliant goal.”

Kuhn’s season for Celtic in stats
When Kuhn first arrived, he was a little cold and needed time to get warm in his seat.
On one hand, he wasn’t exactly jumping out, but on the other, he wasn’t doing much wrong.
Either way, it’s not easy joining a team midway through the season and then expecting to perform at the top of your game.
But fast forward to the present, with a pre-season under his belt and the settling period over, Kuhn is cooking for Celtic, with WhoScored rating his season so far at 7.42.
