Neil Lennon slams what he is hearing about Brendan Rodgers & Kyogo Furuhashi after Celtic beat Rangers

Celtic delivered yet another statement of intent by seeing off Rangers in an entertaining 2-1 Glasgow derby win on Saturday.

Leading into the game, there was a lot of noise around Brendan Rodgers and the start he had made since returning to Celtic.

Whilst others felt the need to disrespect Kyogo Furuhashi, one of the best players and finishers in Scotland.

But Neil Lennon was quick to defend the Celtic duo at the full-time whistle by claiming he ‘doesn’t understand’ some writing off Kyogo Furuhashi after his second-half stunner.

And why there was also a lot of ‘nonsense’ written and said about Brendan Rodgers, as he told Sky Sports Football (30/12/23 at 2:40 pm).

Yes, Kyogo Furuhashi was out of form and not looking like the same player that ran riot in the Scottish Premiership under Ange Postecoglou.

But everyone knew it was just a matter of time before he would prove his worth again and as Neill Lennon mentioned ‘class is permanent’.

“We were talking about him before the game, he got the winner at Ibrox,” said Lennon. “I don’t understand people writing him off. But he has come in with another winner today.

“He has come up trumps again. These players. Chris (Sutton) was one of them (Henrik) Larsson’s. These guys make the difference in the big games. A special player. It doesn’t matter about his form. I told you at the start of the game. Class is permanent and he has got the class.

On Rodgers: “I am delighted for him. I want to give him the credit because he has had a lot of nonsense over the past few weeks. There is no question about his pedigree as a manager. He has come up trumps with another big win today.

“Whilst the players get the credit when they win. I have got my coach’s head on. I know how much pressure he was under and his team have produced the goods again.”

Turning point for Celtic’s season

There has been an inconsistent nature to the team’s performances this season. There is no doubt about that and it was displayed in the previous back-to-back defeats.

But since then, the performances and results have been far better, especially against Rangers.

That is the tempo and quality the fans want to see. And perhaps this is now the start of the Bhoys really putting their foot down and motoring forward.

It’s a clash against St Mirren on Tuesday night, as Celtic need to go into the break charging forward and sending signs that the title will be delivered again.
