Owen Moffat takes the Celtic fan plaudits in victorious first pre-season game
Owen Moffat managed to announce himself in the first pre-season game of the campaign between Sheffield Wednesday and Celtic.
Moffat played for an hour against the Owls as he was one of many youngsters given an opportunity by Ange Postecoglou this afternoon.
He had been impressing with his footwork even before his big moment came on 56 minutes. But regardless of the fact it was a pre-season friendly, his goal against the League One side was a cracker.
As the ball broke to Moffat just outside the penalty area, the tricky winger got his foot around the ball to fire expertly into the far corner and turn the game around.
Celtic were previously level in the game after Albian Ajeti had cancelled out Josh Windass’ early opener before the stunner from Moffat. Odsonne Edouard would go on to add a late third.
Owen Moffat makes his mark in first Celtic friendly; fans will want to see him again
Moffat has come through the academy ranks at Parkhead and will be eligible to play for the B team next season. After signing a new contract with the club back in January, he’s tied down until 2024.

Not just that, Moffat was also keen on cutting inside and helping to form part of an attacking three in the final third. He added plenty to Celtic going forward.
Of course, the youngster won’t have been flustered. He’s been used to training with the senior side and will have known this was the next natural step. But today was the first time he demanded fans take notice with an energetic display.
And fans have been doing just that. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to Moffat’s display:
