It was a repeat of the 2025 Scottish Cup final at Pittodrie on Sunday.
Whilst Jimmy Thelin’s side got the better of Brendan Rodgers’ men at Hampden in May, it was the same old story in the Premiership because Celtic secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Aberdeen.
Celtic are unbeaten in their last 18 matches at Aberdeen, and you could argue this one was perhaps the most comfortable because the home team hardly laid a glove on the champions of Scotland.
After the game, Kris Boyd summed it all up brilliantly, as Benjamin Nygren and Reo Hatate were the men to find the back of the net.

Kris Boyd reacts to Celtic’s win over Aberdeen
As Boyd touched upon Sky Sports, ‘Celtic were in second gear’ throughout the match, and had Aberdeen scored, then he thinks the away team could and would have dealt with it.
The former Scotland striker also noted Aberdeen’s record against the Hoops, including how he thinks their latest performance is perhaps ‘the worst’ of the lot.
Boyd didn’t hold back in his criticism of Aberdeen, as Celtic made it two wins from their opening two Premiership matches.
“To be honest, Celtic were in second gear,” said Boyd. “If Aberdeen had got back into it, you would have felt that Celtic could have lifted again.
“Again, from Aberdeen, it’s so passive. Celtic come up here and they win. That’s what they do. What’s that? 18 without defeat (since 2016). It sums it up. That performance they were the worst. You probably think there have been worse Aberdeen teams, but they put up a fight.
“That today was passive. Don’t get near anybody. They were static. They don’t look sharp.”
Aberdeen were ‘going to give Celtic a run for the title’
This time last season, Aberdeen started like a house on fire, and there was talk that they would challenge Celtic for the title.
In the end, Celtic finished 17 points ahead of second-placed Rangers, and a further and quite staggering 39 points ahead of fifth-placed Aberdeen.
Once again, Boyd referred to that, as well as how he thinks Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup final win is ‘papering over the cracks.’
“I believe Aberdeen winning the Scottish Cup is papering over the cracks,” said Boyd. “The run they have been on. People laughed at me last season when I criticised, it was alarming. The Scottish Cup has papered over the cracks, and right now, it will be a worry for me.
“From where Aberdeen are, and the money they are spending, they have got to be challenging for third and fourth, at least.
“Last year, we were (saying that) they were going to give Celtic a run for the title. The drop off has been alarming.”
