Celtic have received a potential boost ahead of their Europa League meeting with Lazio on Thursday. Lazio news site LaLazioSiamoNoi is reporting that Lazio attacker Joaquin Correa suffered a calf injury in training.

The player’s status for the game is as yet unknown, as the report explains that the player will be ‘evaluated’ in the hours to come.

Correa has been a key man for Lazio recently. He scored the winning goal in the weekend’s 2-1 win over AC Milan. He has scored four goals in 13 games this season, and played in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Lazio a fortnight ago.

The timing of the injury could well be a boost for the Hoops, as they aim to avoid defeat in Italy. The more first-choice Lazio players miss the game, the better the chance that the Hoops have of victory.

Comments would have annoyed Hoops players

Interestingly, Correa recently said that Lazio didn’t deserve to lose the game between the sides at Celtic Park. Those comments would no doubt have got back to the Celtic players. However, Correa may not have the chance to set the record straight on the pitch.

Should Correa miss the game, then you would imagine that Ciro Immobile will start the game. That will be another test that Celtic will have to try to overcome. Immobile has been in excellent form for Lazio this season. He only played the last 20 minutes of the first game, and in that time he looked dangerous. Whoever starts up-front for Lazio, Celtic will need to be at their best.
