There has been a lot of stuff thrown at Ange Postecoglou following his move from Celtic to Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
The simple fact that Postecoglou won trophies at Celtic was seen as a negative in England, because of how it’s achieved in a ‘one-man league’, and ‘anyone can win at Celtic’.
Those very same ignorant people don’t understand the pressures of Celtic, and how the man born in Greece, but raised in Australia, has had to fight through it all and shut a lot of critics up.
But on Wednesday night, the Celtic hero helped Tottenham win the Europa League when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final in Bilbao.
This was the moment for Postecoglou, the time and place where he could let the trophy lift do the talking, because he has now answered his critics, and in serious style.

Roy Keane changes his mind on Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham win the Europa League
Before a ball was kicked, Roy Keane felt the Europa League final was going to be Postecoglou’s penultimate match as manager, and it’s a ‘good time to leave’, even if he had won the trophy.
But once that trophy was lifted in the air, and Postecoglou had created history, Keane was quick to change his mind, as he told CBS Sports.
“I am not sure what he wants to do,” said Keane. “I think it’s a chance for him to reflect. I think so, yeah (the ball is in Postecoglou’s court).
“Obviously, whether the club made a decision before this, because the league form has been so bad, we can’t forget that. Obviously, they can enjoy tonight. But when you reflect on the season, it hasn’t been good enough.
“But it’s a nice problem now for the club to have. They are in the Champions League. You would like to think the club would want him to stay on and give him a chance to impress again next year. A big transfer window is coming up.
“They will have financial backing, of course, because of the reward that comes with winning tonight. I hope he stays on – he has been there two seasons. A very good first season. The second one was difficult. Give the man a chance. Why not?!”
Postecoglou’s record at Tottenham and Celtic
Of course, Spurs aren’t used to winning trophies, nor are they the dominant team in their league like Celtic.
So, the records of Ange in London compared to Glasgow are going to differ, especially given that he is now managing in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
But, after a fifth-place finish last season, Spurs are now 17th in the Premier League table with one game to spare, and with the Europa League trophy in hand.
