Scott Arfield claims what Celtic hero told him after Rangers defeat

Celtic’s defeat to Rangers is now in the rearview mirror.

The Hoops lost 3-2 to Gers last Sunday afternoon on what was a disappointing day for the club. But it is a result that must be brushed aside, moved to the back of the minds, to allow Brendan Rodgers’ side to focus on big things still to play for this season.

While Celtic are looking to move past the Glasgow derby match, the Light Blues will be looking to squeeze every last drop out of their victory and, given how uncommon they’ve become over the years, we can hardly blame them!

So it was no surprise to see ex-Ibrox midfielder Scott Arfield attempting to have a tongue-in-cheek pop at Chris Sutton following the action on Sunday.

Arfield tells what Chris Sutton told him after Celtic vs Rangers

Arfield – who lost 16 of the 28 career matches he played against Celtic – was on Sky Sports commentary duties for the game alongside Sutton. And he claims the big Englishman had one thing to say to him at full-time.

“Chris joked after the game that I wouldn’t be welcomed back, and I suspect that’s not just because Rangers won,” he wrote in his Daily Record column.

“He’s right to have his opinion on what happened after the game with the victors’ celebrations but I certainly have mine – and it won’t surprise you that I view it all a bit differently from the big fella.

“He’s accused my old side of getting majorly carried away with their 3-2 derby triumph, calling the scenes at the end a ‘brass neck’.”

Celtic want to put Rangers loss in rearview mirror

Celtic were the team most likely to win the derby match after Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate had clawed their side back into the game. It was 2-0 Rangers at half-time before “angry man” Rodgers got his hands on his team at the break.

That Celts would eventually lose the game was a frustration and Rodgers claimed his side missed Callum McGregor, which was certainly the truth.

Still, a Scottish Cup semi-final vs St Johnstone is to come while the league title is on the verge of being won by Celtic.

A derby slip-up is one thing. But Rodgers’ teams always bounce back.
