Scott Brown vs Neil Lennon in battle of Celtic legends has a winner in Scottish Championship battle – and one big loser

It was billed as battle of the Celtic legends and it certainly brought plenty of intrigue.

That was, of course, Scott Brown’s Ayr United taking on Dunfermline now managed by Neil Lennon after the Irishman agreed a deal to take the Scottish Championship side until the end of the season.

Lennon made a demand of Brown before the game this afternoon and we’re sure the 39-year-old would have obliged, especially given the scoreline between the two sides.

Brown’s Honest Men were the victors at Somerset Park as the ex-Celtic captain got the better of old manager Lennon as the hosts won the game 3-0 in front of their home crowd.

Goals from Connor McLennan, Jamie Murphy and Ethan Walker ensured Ayr took the spoils to remain on the tail of league leaders Falkirk albeit there’s still an eight point gap.

But while the managers took centre stage in the build-up to the action this afternoon, there was another Celtic storyline woven in after Victor Wanyama signed for Dunfermline to join his old gaffer at East End Park in what was described as a coup.

The former £12.5million man claimed it was a “no-brainer” to join Dunfermline after almost a year out of the game with his most recent match coming in summer 2024.

Incredibly, the big Kenyan international was not to be overshadowed by either boss as he took to the field for his debut and his first moment on the pitch in Scottish football for 12 years.

Victor Wanyama had a nightmare Dunfermline debut to forget

Nobody will forget his first appearance for the club any time soon, however – and not for any good reason.

The midfield enforcer was shown a straight red card for a handball just about more than 20 minutes after he came off the bench.

The Pars posted about the incident on their social media channels and it racked up hundreds of likes and shares within a few minutes.

Welcome back to Scotland, Victor.
