That was a moment Mikey Johnston has been waiting for in Celtic colours and his latest performance was applauded by Shane Duffy and Paulo Bernardo.

A lot has been said about the 24-year-old this season and there have been big question marks over his Celtic future.

But Mikey Johnston sent a reminder to all, including Brendan Rodgers, that he still has that magic in his locker.

Look, Celtic were absolutely battering Dundee on Boxing Day, but by the time Mikey Johnston was introduced into the action with just over ten minutes to go, the scoreline still read 1-0 and anything could have happened.

But the Republic of Ireland star made sure of the points by scoring two well-taken goals and to seal the points for the team.

After the game, as you would imagine, he was delighted with his performance and he took to Instagram to express that.

Mikey Johnston wrote ‘3 points, 2 goals, Merry Christmas’ and was then praised in the comments section, including by Shane Duffy and Paulo Bernardo.

Mikey Johnston praise

Paulo Bernardo simply used one word to describe his teammate, ‘magic’, whilst Shane Duffy told his fellow countryman ‘Love it you’, added with a fire emoji. Marco Tilio added ‘Cheers to that’ whilst applauding him.

Mikey Johnston when starting compared to being a substitute

You could argue that Johnston hasn’t done much wrong when he has come off the bench for Celtic this season, note his little cameo in the Champions League against Lazio.

His issue has firmly been the fact that he isn’t worthy of being a starter and is lacking the intelligence and concentration to play an important role out wide.

To be fair, that’s probably still hanging over his head and will continue to do so until he showcases otherwise.

But, for now, he has found some much-needed goals at the right time with the game against Rangers around the corner.
