It was a bit of a damp squib, but it’s still a clear message to the board from the Celtic supporters.

After a fortnight of drama, statements, anger and frustration, the Celtic fans protested against the board by entering Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park in the 12th minute on Sunday.

Before the match, there was a large banner unfurled that read ‘sack the board’, in black and white, and for everyone to see.

And then the main event of the 12th minute, which was picked up and spoken about on Sky.

Celtic board present as fans protest at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock

Luckily, Celtic’s game against Kilmarnock was broadcast on Sky Sports, so it adds more eyes and noise to the whole story.

Before kick-off, it was mentioned by Sky that the away fans would stage a protest, and then, as some fans started coming in during the 12th minute, cameras panned to the stands.

That’s when lead commentator Ian Crocker spoke about the situation, before cameras panned towards the director’s box, as some Celtic board members were present.

“A few Celtic fans are starting to make their way in now in the 12th minute of the match,” said Crocker. “After what has been more than a week of extraordinary unrest, especially after Celtic’s Saturday night statement.

“The Celtic board are here, including Michael Nicholson on the end there. I don’t think this is going to go away, not even a few wins will cut it with the Celtic fans. It’s going to be interesting to see what the next step might be from the board.”

Which Celtic board members were present?

Some Celtic board members are generating more noise than others, so fans won’t be surprised to hear that the under-pressure Peter Lawwell wasn’t spotted at Rugby Park.

As mentioned by Sky, CEO Nicholson was present, alongside Chris McKay, but Lawwell wasn’t seen in the pictures shown.

That isn’t a surprise, but it also doesn’t mean that the likes of Nicholson, as well as Celtic’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, aren’t feeling the wrath of fans.
