Celtic return to action after a long international break this Sunday against Hearts.
The Tynecastle clash takes place on October 22. Amusingly, that’s exactly one year on from an action-packed visit we had to Hearts last season.
On October 22, 2022, Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic triumphed 4-3 at Tynecastle in a game that had to be seen to be believed. We led, we trailed, we led again, we were pegged back, then we won it through Greg Taylor.
The goalscoring was only half of the story though. VAR, used in its first televised Premiership match, dominated headlines. It was used to give Hearts a penalty, not used for an offside Hoops goal that looked marginal at best. And… Michael Smith’s handball. Need I say any more?
Adding to the feeling of deja vu ahead of this weekend is the fact that the referee from that match — Nick Walsh — is also in charge of Sunday’s game.
Thankfully, this time there is no Steven McLean on VAR. Instead, it will be Andrew Dallas. The assistants are Daniel McFarlane and Calum Spence. The fourth official is Colin Steven. (SFA)
That Tynecastle win this time last year was a huge moment in our season, and certainly one of the biggest on our way to two in a row. If the team can come out on the right side of a result this weekend, you feel like it could have a similar impact.
Drama never seems to be too far away when we venture to Edinburgh. But, equally, we’d all settle for a very boring, routine win.
