Celtic fan group The Green Brigade have called on supporters to demonstrate “patience and encouragement” at all times tonight when the Bhoys face Real Madrid.

Tonight’s occasion feels very special, and it is, but no one is under any illusions about the challenge ahead. In truth, it could be a frustrating sight to see the European champions have the vast majority of possession in the match – not something we’re used to.

Unity is as important tonight as it ever has been under Ange Postecoglou’s reign so far. The fans need to stay behind the team, who in turn can feed off that support.

The Green Brigade are planning a big pre-match display as usual, with tonight’s effort taking place across both tiers of the North Curve area.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s fixture, the group said: “Real Madrid suffered defeat on their last visit to Celtic Park 42 years ago. To emulate that famous night will require a united effort from the stands and pitch.

“The support has a duty to re-ignite the once-feared Celtic Park fortress and make our home hostile and intimidating for the visitors. We must rally behind our team and stay with them, demonstrating patience and encouragement at all times.

“To help set the tone, a tifo has been prepared for the entire North Curve, covering both tiers. We ask that all fans in this area use the material found at your seat when the teams emerge from the tunnel and use these up until the Huddle. As ever, we thank the support for your continued backing.”

We all feel the excitement and expectation ahead of tonight. It’s building towards the crescendo of noise that will undoubtedly come just before kick-off. However, Madrid have the quality to quickly silence that in the early stages of the match.

If the fans can stay vociferous and fierce in the face of that, as well as cheer every Celtic ball and positive action, I have no doubt it can be a factor in the end result.

It could be one of those big, big nights at Paradise. Let’s do all we can to make it happen.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou just gave one of his best Celtic quotes yet.
