Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is hoping to give Tom Rogic minutes against Bristol City in Wednesday night’s friendly.

The Bhoys will face off against the English Championship side before heading back to Scotland for final Champions League preparations.

Rogic has been included in the Welsh camp, and has been pictured training with the rest of the group, but hasn’t been utilised on the pitch at Dragon Park against Sheffield Wednesday or Charlton Athletic.

Postecoglou was asked about the situation this weekend and didn’t go into detail but did confirm he wasn’t quite fit enough.

As quoted by The Scottish Mail on Sunday [11/07 print edition, page 141], he said: “Kris [Ajer] wasn’t 100% fit, same with Tommy Rogic. We will hopefully get some game time into them on Wednesday.”

Future of Tom Rogic at Celtic still uncertain

There’s a lot of curiosity about the future of Rogic at Celtic. Not least because of the arrival of his old national team boss.

You’d think if he has any chance of finding his best form in Scotland again, it’d be under Postecoglou. We know that Rogic is an admirer of his methods.

However, the attacking midfielder hasn’t produced consistent performances for Celtic for a number of years now, so a comeback is far from guaranteed.

His lack of match activity in early pre-season was a little bit concerning. But as Postecoglou has pointed out before, different players reach their ‘ready to go’ status at different periods ahead of a new season.

It sounds like he’s on the brink of being at the level required to get match minutes into his legs. A lot will then depend on how ready he looks against an opponent.

Fingers crossed he has a role to play. At his best, he’s a potent weapon for Celtic.
