Video: Massive Celtic pyro display at Hampden
Ange Postecoglou’s side were met with a massive wall of pyrotechnics from the Celtic end at Hampden ahead of this evening’s big Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden.
Celtic fan groups often go above and beyond with displays at the national stadium for these big matches, but rather than unveiling images or words, today supporters used red flares to create a jaw-dropping and dramatic backdrop before kick-off.
Photos are doing the rounds on social media, while broadcaster Viaplay Sports uploaded stunning footage of the teams walking out on Twitter which you can see embedded below or via this link.
The atmosphere was electric at kick-off, something which was harnessed by both teams in a frantic, end-to-end opening few minutes. Kilmarnock created a few opportunities of their own, showing no fear in the attack.
Thankfully it was Celtic who managed to establish themselves properly in the fixture, passing the ball sharply and putting consistent pressure on Killie in the final third.
A sumptuous Aaron Mooy free-kick was then poorly dealt with by Kyle Lafferty, who could only divert the ball off of Daizen Maeda into the back of the net, giving Celtic a crucial lead at 1-0.
At the time of publishing, at half-time, you sense there is more to come drama this one after an exciting opening first half, with the tone of a massive occasion nicely set by the Celtic fans.
Nobody has been figuratively dampened by the brutal weather in Glasgow, going by all the noise and colour.
Hopefully Postecoglouy’s Bhoys can go on to take even firmer control of this one and delight the buoyant Celtic support to set up a Saturday night of partying!
